Dr Aaron G Grech has served as Deputy Chairman of the Malta Statistics Authority board since 2013. He is an Economist by trade and presently occupies the position of Chief Officer – Economics at the Central Bank of Malta. In this capacity, he is in charge of co-ordinating the Bank’s economic analysis and research activities, including participation in the work of the European System of Central Banks. He also advises the Governors on monetary policy issues and other economic policy matters.
Dr Grech holds degrees from the University of Malta, the University College London, and the London School of Economics, where he also served as a research fellow.
During his career, Dr Grech was an Economic Advisor at the UK Department for Work and Pensions. He formed part of European Commission taskforces assessing pension reform and evaluating future policy co-ordination. He also took part in EU research projects on pensions and has earned international accolades for his work. He authored several academic articles on pensions and pension reform and contributed to books on the same subject.
