Dr Fiona Sammut is a senior lecturer within the Department of Statistics and Operations Research at the University of Malta and has over 15 years of experience in teaching statistics to students at different levels. She obtained her first degree, a BSc (Hons) in Maths and Statistics and Operations Research from the University of Malta, followed by an MSc in Statistics from the same University. Dr Sammut also holds a PhD in Statistics from the University of Warwick.
Dr Sammut has a keen interest in statistical modelling including structural equation modelling, generalized linear models, generalized estimating equations, Bayesian modelling and classification problems. Over the years, she has collaborated with researchers from various fields, including the government sector, medical sector, market research and from the area of behavioural sciences. At present Dr Sammut is involved in research related to health sciences, psychology, and climate modelling.
Dr Sammut is head of the Department of Statistics and Operations Research at the University of Malta, a position which she has occupied since October 2018. She has also been Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Science since October 2021.
