Mr Godwin Mifsud is an economist by education and presently serves as Permanent Secretary inside the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects. He has been a member of the Malta Statistics Authority Board since 2013.
Mr Mifsud joined the public service as an Economics Officer in 2001, inside the Economic Policy Directorate which forms part of the Ministry for Finance. After serving in several posts, he was appointed Director for Structural Economic Research in 2011 and subsequently Director General for Economic Policy in 2015.
Over the course of his career, Mr Mifsud has represented the Government of Malta in several national and international fora. He was head of delegation for Malta in the Economic Policy Committee – later the ECOFIN council and served as Chairman of the Ageing Population and Sustainability Working Group of the same committee.
Mr Mifsud holds post-graduate degrees in Economics and Public Policy from the University of Essex (UK) and the University of Malta, respectively. He is also a visiting academic at the University of Malta.
